Privacy Policy

Overview

Edgeless Media LLC ("we", "us", "our") builds mobile applications designed to make a real difference in people's lives. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what data we collect across all Edgeless Media apps, why we collect it, how we handle it, and what rights you have.

This policy applies to all apps published by Edgeless Media LLC, including but not limited to: Better Sleep, Cognitive Stories, Memoryish, Anti-Bias Trainer, Sizzle, Vocabulary, Lighthouses, Musicians Process, Random Reminders, Bucket List, Unsolicited Advice, Big Bad Words, Scrabble Trainer, Grief Companion, and Self-Compassion.

Data We Collect

Account Data (Optional)

You can use our apps without creating an account. If you choose to create an account, we collect:

  • Email address — used for authentication and account recovery
  • Display name — optional, shown in the app
  • Authentication method — whether you sign in with email, Google, or Apple

If you use our apps without an account (guest mode), we generate a random identifier stored only on your device. We cannot identify you from this identifier.

User-Generated Content

Data you create within our apps — such as journal entries, sleep logs, memories, assessment responses, cooking notes, vocabulary lists, or other app-specific content — is stored locally on your device. If you create an account and enable cloud sync, this data is also stored on our servers, protected by row-level security that ensures only you can access your data.

Analytics

Some apps collect anonymous usage analytics (screens viewed, features used) via PostHog to help us improve those apps. No personally identifiable information is attached to these events. You can opt out of analytics in the app settings for apps that support it.

Crash Reports

We collect crash reports that help us fix bugs. These include device type, OS version, app version, and technical error details. Crash reports are linked to your anonymous user ID to help diagnose recurring issues but do not contain your personal content.

Subscription Data

If you subscribe to a paid tier, your subscription status is managed through a subscription management service. This service receives your anonymous user ID and purchase receipt from Apple or Google. We do not directly handle payment card details — all payments are processed by the App Store or Google Play.

Health and Sensitive Data

Some of our apps collect data related to health and wellness. We treat this data with extra care:

  • Better Sleep — sleep logs including bedtime, wake time, sleep quality, and duration
  • Cognitive Stories — story responses, speech input, and cognitive assessment scores designed to support cognitive rehabilitation
  • Memoryish — personal memories, life events, relationships, and personal reflections
  • Anti-Bias Trainer — assessment responses and bias pattern scores related to implicit biases
  • Grief Companion — grief journal entries, emotional check-ins, and coping notes related to loss and bereavement
  • Self-Compassion — self-compassion journal entries, mood check-ins, and mindfulness exercise data

This data is stored with the same protections as all user data (local storage with optional cloud sync protected by row-level security). We do not share health or sensitive data with third parties, use it for advertising, or train AI models on it.

Our apps are not medical devices. Content related to sleep, cognitive health, mental wellness, or nutrition is for informational and self-improvement purposes only and does not constitute professional medical advice.

Voice and Speech Data

Some apps offer voice input or text-to-speech features. By default, speech processing happens entirely on your device using built-in platform APIs. Your voice data is not sent to our servers unless you explicitly enable a cloud-based voice feature, which will be clearly indicated in the app.

AI Features

Some apps offer AI-powered features such as coaching, content generation, or recommendations. When you use these features:

  • Your input is sent to our servers to generate a response
  • Conversation history may be stored to provide continuity across sessions
  • We do not use your AI interactions to train models
  • AI features are available only in paid tiers and clearly labeled

Data We Do Not Collect

  • We do not sell your data to anyone, ever.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites.
  • We do not use your data to train AI or machine learning models.
  • We do not collect location data unless an app's core feature requires it (e.g., lighthouse discovery in Lighthouses), and only with your explicit permission.
  • We do not collect contacts, photos, or other device data unrelated to app functionality.

Advertising

Some free-tier apps display ads through Google AdMob. Where advertising is shown, the ad provider may collect device identifiers for ad personalization, subject to your device's ad tracking settings. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings (iOS: Settings > Privacy > Tracking; Android: Settings > Google > Ads). Paid tiers (Plus and Pro) remove all advertising. Not all apps display ads — check the individual app's settings page to confirm.

Third-Party Services

Our apps use third-party services for the following purposes, each governed by their own privacy policies:

  • Advertising — ad networks serve ads in the free tier
  • Subscription management — a third-party service manages subscription status
  • Analytics — anonymous usage analytics to improve our apps
  • Crash reporting — automated error reporting to help us fix bugs
  • Authentication — optional sign-in via Google or Apple

Data Storage and Security

  • Local storage: All app data is stored locally on your device. The app works fully offline.
  • Cloud storage: If you enable sync, data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored in our database with row-level security — a technical control that ensures your data is isolated from all other users at the database level.
  • Authentication tokens: Stored securely using your device's secure enclave (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore).
  • Server infrastructure: Hosted on secure cloud infrastructure with encrypted storage and regular backups.

Your Rights

Regardless of where you live, we provide these rights to all users:

  • Access: You can view all data we store about you within the app.
  • Export: You can export all your data in a standard format at any time from the app settings.
  • Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data from the app settings. Upon deletion, your data is permanently removed from our servers. We also request deletion of your data from the third-party services we use.
  • Correction: You can update your profile information at any time.
  • Portability: Your exported data is in a standard format you can use elsewhere.
  • Opt out of analytics: You can disable analytics collection in the app settings.
  • Opt out of personalized ads: Use your device's ad tracking settings.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you also have rights under the GDPR including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. If you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA including the right to know what personal information we collect and the right to request deletion.

Children's Privacy

Our apps are not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is permanently removed from our servers. Anonymous analytics data (which cannot identify you) may be retained in aggregate form. Crash reports are automatically purged after 90 days.

International Data Transfers

Our servers are located in the United States. If you use our apps from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the US. We apply the same privacy protections regardless of where your data is stored.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when our data practices change. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the date above. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
