Getting Started with Bucket List

Bucket List is a mobile and web app that helps you stop saying "someday" and start making your bucket list items happen. Capture aspirations as they come to you, turn them into actionable plans with sub-tasks and budgets, track your progress, and preserve the memory when you complete something.

The app is designed to work for any style — from people who want to jot down a title and come back later, to those who plan every step with deadlines, budgets, and reflections.

First Launch

  1. Onboarding prompt. On your first launch you'll see a simple prompt: "Add your first bucket list item." Type a title for something on your list and tap add. Just a title is enough — you can fill in details later.
  2. Skip if you prefer. Tap "Skip" if you'd rather explore first. You'll land on the main list view with all tabs visible.
  3. No sign-in required. An anonymous session is created silently in the background. You can start adding items immediately.

The onboarding prompt only appears once. After you add your first item (or skip), you'll go directly to your list on every future launch.

Key Screens

My List Tab

Your bucket list. Four tabs at the top let you filter your view:

  • All — every item regardless of status
  • In Progress — items you've moved to active pursuit
  • Completed — finished items with their reflections
  • Upcoming — items that have a target date in the future

Use the filter icon to narrow by tag, or the sort icon to order by target date, priority, or title. A floating + button at the bottom right creates a new item from anywhere.

Item Detail

Tap any item to open its full detail view. From here you can:

  • Edit the title, description, tags, target date, priority, and photos
  • Add and check off sub-tasks with a progress indicator
  • Add an estimated budget and cost line items
  • Change the item's status (To Do → In Progress → Completed)
  • Read or edit the completion reflection (for Completed items)

A search bar at the top of the My List screen searches across item titles, descriptions, tags, sub-task titles, and reflection text. Results update as you type.

Settings Tab

Sign-in options (Google, Apple, Magic Link), notification preferences (Plus subscribers), subscription management, and legal documents.

Creating Your First Item

Tap the + button from any tab. Fill in:

  • Title (required) — the name of your goal
  • Description (optional) — any context or notes
  • Tags (optional) — create your own tags like #travel, #career, or #family to organize and filter your list
  • Target date (optional) — when you'd like to accomplish it; items with future dates appear in the Upcoming tab
  • Priority (optional) — Low, Medium, or High
  • Photos (optional) — attach images to inspire or document the item

Tap Save. Your item appears in the All tab immediately.

Planning a Goal with Sub-Tasks

Open an item and tap "Add Sub-Task." Break your goal into specific steps — each sub-task has a title and optional notes. Check sub-tasks off as you complete them. A progress bar on the item card shows how many steps are done (e.g., "3 of 7 steps"). Sub-tasks can be reordered by drag-and-drop, edited inline, or deleted with a confirmation dialog.

Completing an Item

When you're ready to mark something done:

  1. Open the item and change the status to Completed.
  2. A confetti celebration animation plays.
  3. A reflection prompt appears — write about the experience, give it a 1–5 star rating, set the completion date, and add photos. All fields are optional.
  4. The item moves to the Completed tab where it lives as a permanent memory with its reflection.

You can edit a reflection at any time by opening the completed item and tapping Edit.
