Getting Started with Memoryish

Memoryish is a personal memory archive for iOS and Android. It helps you capture stories from any point in your life — not just recent events — with fuzzy dates ("sometime in spring 1995"), fuzzy locations (a village in Oaxaca), and links to the people, places, and things that mattered. Memories sync offline-first so your archive is always available, even without a connection.

How the App Works

Most journaling apps assume you remember exactly when things happened. Memoryish doesn't. It's built around four ideas:

  • You should be able to capture a memory even if you only know the approximate year or decade
  • Memories belong in context — linked to people, places, and things — not as isolated text entries
  • Your archive should be navigable through time (Timeline) and place (Whereline), not just a list
  • Your memories are yours — exportable as a complete JSON backup or a formatted PDF memory book

First Launch

When you open Memoryish for the first time:

  1. Sign in with your Edgeless account. Tap the sign-in button on the welcome screen. If you don't have an account, you can create one for free. Your account keeps your memories synced across devices.
  2. Choose your language. Memoryish supports English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, and Japanese. Select your preferred language — the full UI switches immediately, including prompts and suggested content.
  3. Pick a theme. Choose Light or Dark mode. You can change this any time in Settings.
  4. Select your interests. Choose 1–3 interest areas (family history, travel, career, personal growth, etc.). This personalises the prompts suggested by "Prompt Me" on your dashboard.
  5. Arrive at your dashboard. Twelve tiles give you access to every feature from day one: Prompt Me, People, Places, Things, Tags, Journeys, Memories, Timeline, Whereline, Categories, Export, and Prompts.

Key Screens

Dashboard

Your home base. Twelve feature tiles, each opening a different area of the app. Tap any tile to get started. The dashboard also shows your current streak and a featured prompt.

Memories

A chronological list of all your memories. Use the search bar or filter icon to narrow by text, person, or date range. Tap any entry to view or edit the full memory.

Timeline

Visualize your entire archive on a horizontal timeline. Pinch to zoom in from years to months to individual days. Memories with fuzzy dates appear at their approximate position. Tap any memory to open its detail view.

Whereline

A world map showing pins at every location you've recorded. Pan and zoom freely. Tap a pin to see a preview popup, then tap again to open the full memory. Great for seeing your life geographically.

Capturing Your First Memory

There are two ways to start:

Quick Entry — Tap the floating action button or the "Memories" tile and press the "+" button. Enter a title and your memory text. Save & New keeps the form open for batch entry. This takes under 90 seconds.

Prompt Me — Not sure where to start? Tap the "Prompt Me" tile. Memoryish suggests a memory prompt based on your interests ("Describe a meal that brings back a strong memory"). Write your response and save.

Fuzzy Dates and Locations

You don't need to know the exact date. When adding a date, choose a descriptor ("sometime in spring", "early in the year", "around the holidays") alongside the year. The memory positions itself appropriately on the Timeline.

For locations, the whereish picker lets you select a geographic level — continent, country, state/region, or city. You can be as precise or as loose as you remember. The location appears as a pin on the Whereline map.

Free, Plus, and Pro

Free gives you unlimited memory capture, Quick Entry, Prompt Me, Timeline, Whereline, and basic exports. It fully solves the core use case.

Plus adds unlimited exports, PDF memory books, advanced timeline analytics, extended prompt library, and unlimited memory clubs.

Pro adds AI-assisted import (extract multiple memories from a block of text with auto-populated dates, locations, and person links) and deep AI prompts.

When you reach a Plus or Pro feature on the Free tier, the app shows an informative upgrade screen. Tap "Maybe Later" to dismiss it — your free features are never blocked.
