Getting Started with Random Reminders

Random Reminders is a personal wisdom companion for Android that helps you collect meaningful quotes, principles, and reflections — then resurfaces them through randomized push notifications throughout your day. The core idea: you encounter valuable wisdom all the time (in books, podcasts, conversations) but rarely see it again after you write it down. Random Reminders fixes that by turning your saved ideas into a rotating feed of serendipitous reminders.

What the App Does

  • My Reminders: Your personal library of quotes, principles, and reflections — organized by category (Stoicism, Productivity, Gratitude, Mindfulness, Motivation, Relationships, Health, Creativity, or custom)
  • Push notifications: Your saved wisdom arrives as surprise notifications at random times during the day — you choose the frequency (1-10 per day) and quiet hours
  • Three scheduling modes: Random (surprise selection), Spaced Repetition (SM-2 intervals for deeper retention), or Once-a-Year (anniversary notification on the date you saved it)
  • Journal: Write reflections when a reminder resonates, with a 1-5 resonance rating to track what matters most to you
  • Discover library: 100+ editorially curated quotes across all categories — save any to your collection with one tap
  • Community: Browse and upvote wisdom shared by other users; share your own favorites

First Launch Steps

  1. Open the app — it lands directly on your My Reminders tab with no sign-up required. An anonymous session starts silently, and 20+ seed reminders across 4 categories appear immediately so the app feels valuable from the first second.
  2. Explore or remove seed content — the pre-loaded reminders are labeled as such. Keep the ones that resonate, delete the ones that don't. Tap any reminder to open its detail view, then use the delete action if it's not for you.
  3. Add your first reminder — tap the "Add Reminder" FAB (floating action button). Type the text, add an optional source/attribution, choose a category, and pick a schedule type. Tap save and it joins your collection.
  4. Browse the Discover library — switch to the Discover tab and browse curated wisdom by category. Tap "Save to My Reminders" on anything you like; it will immediately join your notification rotation.
  5. Enable push notifications — after you've saved 3+ reminders, the app asks for notification permission. This is when the core experience kicks in: your saved wisdom starts arriving as surprise notifications. Configure frequency and quiet hours in Profile → Notification Settings.
