Who He Is

Javier is analytical, self-aware, and deeply skeptical of anything that feels like it is trying to fix him. He lost both his relationship and his job in a short span of time, and the combination hit harder than he expected. He downloaded Grief Companion because a friend mentioned it — not because he believed it would help, but because he was at the point where he was willing to try something.

He is not a therapist type. He does not want prompts asking him how he feels about his feelings. He wants somewhere to put the raw, unfiltered version of what is happening inside him — the anger that catches him off guard, the loneliness of evenings that used to be shared, the embarrassment of how much this hurts.

How He Uses the App

Javier writes exclusively in free-form mode. He tried a guided prompt once and found it too structured for what he needed. He went back to free-form and has stayed there.

He has 31 entries. Anger and loneliness are his most-used emotion tags. A few entries are tagged with frustration and relief — the relief surprised him.

He ignores the grief education library. He has not looked at the assessments. The Memory Book does not apply to how he sees his grief. For Javier, the app is almost entirely the journal, and the journal is almost entirely a place for unfiltered writing.

He finds this useful enough to keep opening the app, which surprised him.

What He Needs From the App

  • A genuinely blank page — no nudges toward structure he did not ask for
  • No moral pressure to "process" in any particular way
  • The app staying out of his way once he has started writing
  • No paywalls appearing while he is in the middle of writing

Relevant Features

  • Free-form journal entries — the only feature he uses regularly
  • Emotion tagging — anger, loneliness, frustration, occasional relief
  • Free tier — the fact that this costs nothing is meaningful to him right now when he is between jobs

Notes for Support Staff

Javier is unlikely to contact support. If he does, he will probably be direct and slightly impatient. Give him a clear answer without preamble. Do not recommend guided prompts or other features he has not asked about.
