Troubleshooting

Sign-In and Account Issues

I can't sign in with Google or Apple

  1. Check your internet connection — sign-in requires network access.
  2. Make sure you're using the same Google or Apple account you originally linked.
  3. Close the app completely and reopen it, then try again.
  4. For Apple Sign-In: go to device Settings → your name → Password & Security → Apps Using Apple ID and confirm the app is listed.
  5. For Google Sign-In: make sure the Google account is active on your device in Settings → Accounts.

I signed in but my drill progress is missing

  • Confirm you're signed into the same account that had your progress (check in Settings).
  • Anonymous session progress is stored locally. If you signed out without creating an account, that progress was never uploaded to the cloud and cannot be recovered.
  • If you're a Pro subscriber who recently reinstalled the app, your sync data should restore automatically within a few minutes. Pull down to refresh on the Study tab.

I accidentally signed out — is my local progress gone?

Anonymous data is stored locally on your device. If you haven't reinstalled the app or cleared its storage, your drill history, mastery percentages, and streak are still there. Reopening the app resumes the anonymous session. If you reinstalled, local data is gone — anonymous data is never uploaded to the cloud.

Offline Drilling

The app isn't working without internet

All word data, both drill modes, spaced repetition state, and progress tracking work completely offline — no internet is needed to drill. If features appear broken offline:

  1. Make sure you're on the latest app version (new word data may require a one-time download on first launch after update).
  2. If you've never launched the app with internet access, the initial word data bundle may not have loaded — connect once to finish setup, then go offline.

My streak didn't increment even though I drilled

The streak increments when you complete at least one full drill session in a calendar day. Check that:

  • You completed the session (saw the session summary screen) rather than exiting mid-drill.
  • The session occurred on today's calendar date on your device. If your device clock changed while offline (e.g., time zone travel), the day boundary may not match what you expect.

Sync Issues (Pro subscribers)

My progress isn't syncing between my phone and tablet

  1. Confirm both devices are signed into the same Pro account (check Settings on each device).
  2. Make sure both devices have an active internet connection.
  3. On the device where progress was created, open the app to trigger a sync push. On the receiving device, pull down on the Study tab to trigger a sync pull.
  4. If data is still missing after 5 minutes, sign out and sign back in on the receiving device.

Sync is stuck — the sync indicator keeps spinning

  1. Check your internet connection.
  2. Close the app and reopen it — this resets the sync state.
  3. If the sync indicator still doesn't resolve, sign out and back in.

I see a sync conflict — which data wins?

The app uses last-write-wins based on timestamps. If you drilled words on two devices while offline and then synced, the most recent session data for each word is kept. No drill responses are permanently lost — the merge favors the latest state per word.

Study Reminders

I'm not receiving daily study reminder notifications

  1. On iOS: go to Settings → Notifications → Scrabble Trainer and confirm notifications are allowed.
  2. On Android: go to Settings → Apps → Scrabble Trainer → Notifications and confirm notifications are enabled.
  3. In the app: go to Settings → Study Reminders and confirm the toggle is on and the time is set.
  4. Make sure your device's Do Not Disturb schedule doesn't cover your reminder time.

My reminder notification says "0 words due" but I have words to review

This can happen if your device's local time and the session schedule diverge. Open the app once to refresh the notification text, then the next notification will have the correct count.

Subscriptions and Purchases

I purchased Ad-free but ads are still showing

  1. Confirm you completed account creation during the purchase — Ad-free requires an account.
  2. Sign out and sign back in to refresh your purchase state.
  3. Go to Settings → Restore Purchases to re-validate with the App Store or Google Play.

I upgraded to Pro but sync isn't working

  1. Sign out and sign back in to refresh your subscription status.
  2. Confirm the subscription is active in your App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) subscription settings.
  3. Try Settings → Restore Purchases.

How do I restore purchases on a new device?

Go to Settings → Restore Purchases. This re-validates your purchase or subscription with the App Store or Google Play and restores your tier access. You must be signed in with the same account used for the original purchase.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Manage subscriptions through Apple App Store or Google Play. Find Scrabble Trainer in your active subscriptions and cancel from there. You retain Pro access until the end of the current billing period.

Performance

The app is slow or the drill takes a moment to load on my device

Scrabble Trainer is tested on budget hardware (Android Galaxy A14). If performance is poor:

  1. Close other apps running in the background.
  2. Update to the latest version.
  3. Restart your device.

Large drill sessions (50 words) with deep spaced repetition history can take slightly longer to build the queue on first launch — this is normal.

Still Need Help?

Open the app, go to Settings, and tap Report a Bug. Include your device model, OS version, what category you were drilling, and what you expected vs. what happened. Our support team reviews all reports.
