Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is Anti-Bias Trainer?

A mobile app that helps you recognize and reduce cognitive biases through a combination of education, journaling, interactive exercises, and progress tracking. It's designed to be practical and private — not a lecture.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can browse the entire bias library and take the awareness quiz without signing in. An account is only needed for journaling, progress tracking, and exercises.

Is the app free?

Yes. The free tier includes the full bias library and the awareness quiz. Premium features (journaling, exercises, progress tracking, push notifications) require a subscription.

Bias Library

What is a cognitive bias?

A cognitive bias is a systematic pattern of thinking that can lead to errors in judgment. Everyone has them — they're part of how our brains work. The goal isn't to eliminate them but to recognize when they're influencing your decisions.

How many biases are in the library?

The library covers dozens of well-researched cognitive biases across four categories: Decision-Making, Social, Memory, and Perception. Each bias includes a definition, real-world examples, and links to related biases.

Can I search for a specific bias?

Yes. Use the search bar at the top of the Library screen. You can also filter biases by category or tag.

Weekly Focus

What is the Weekly Focus?

You choose one bias to pay special attention to for a week. The app sends you periodic reminders to watch for that bias in your daily life, and you can journal about what you notice.

How do I change my focus bias?

Go to the Library, tap a bias you want to focus on, and select "Set as Weekly Focus." Your focus history is tracked so you can see which biases you've studied over time.

Will I get notifications?

If you're on Premium and have notifications enabled, you'll receive gentle reminders throughout the week to watch for your focus bias. You can adjust the frequency and timing in Settings.

Journal

What should I write in my journal?

Describe a moment when you noticed a bias at play — in your own thinking, a conversation, or something you read. Include what happened, how you felt, and whether the outcome was positive, negative, or mixed.

Can I edit or delete journal entries?

Yes. Tap any journal entry to edit it, or swipe to delete. Your journal is private and only visible to you.

Can I filter my journal entries?

Yes. You can filter by bias type, date range, emotion, or situation category to find patterns in your observations.

Exercises

What are scenario exercises?

Short interactive challenges that present a realistic situation and ask you to identify or respond to a bias. They include role-reversal perspectives to help you see situations from multiple angles.

Can I retake exercises?

Yes. You can retake any exercise to try for a better score or to reinforce your learning.

Progress & Assessment

How is my progress measured?

Your progress is tracked through assessment scores, journal frequency, exercise completions, and streaks. The Progress dashboard shows your improvement over time.

Can I retake the awareness quiz?

Yes. Retaking the quiz after a few weeks of focused practice lets you see measurable improvement. The app shows a comparison between your baseline and current scores.

Privacy

Who can see my journal entries?

Only you. Your data is encrypted in transit, stored securely, and never shared with anyone. See our Privacy & Security page for full details.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Go to Settings to export your journal entries and progress data in standard formats.
