How to Change Your Story Difficulty
Felicia, a retired postal worker, was initially set to Medium difficulty (8–10 facts) by her daughter who helped set up the app. She found it overwhelming and needed to switch to Easy. Difficulty is fully adjustable from Settings at any time — your comfort with the current level is more important than the number itself.
Difficulty Levels
| Level | Facts per Story | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | 5–6 facts | Building confidence, high-fatigue periods, early recovery |
| Medium | 8–10 facts | The starting point for most users (default) |
| Hard | 12–15 facts | Long-term practitioners, advanced cognitive maintenance |
Steps
-
Tap the Profile tab in the bottom navigation bar.
-
Tap Settings (gear icon or "Settings" option).
-
Find the Difficulty setting. It shows your current level (Easy, Medium, or Hard).
-
Tap your desired difficulty level. The change saves immediately.
-
Start your next exercise. The new difficulty takes effect immediately — the next story you receive will be at the new level.
Expected Outcome
Your next exercise presents a story at the difficulty level you selected. The difficulty level shown in Settings updates immediately. Your previous session history is not affected.
Adaptive Difficulty (Subscribers)
If you have a Basic Subscription (Tier C), the app monitors your rolling 7-session accuracy average and may suggest a difficulty change:
- If your average exceeds 80% → the app suggests increasing to the next level
- If your average falls below 50% → the app suggests decreasing
The suggestion appears as a prompt after completing a session. You can Accept (the difficulty changes) or Dismiss (no change, you can decide later). Difficulty changes only happen if you agree.
Tips
- There is no "correct" difficulty. Choose the level that feels challenging but achievable — typically one where your first-attempt accuracy is around 40–60%.
- It is completely valid to stay on Easy for months. Consistent practice at any level is more valuable than occasional practice at a harder level.
- Dropping to an easier level during a difficult period (illness, high fatigue) is not failure — it is good self-management.
