Felicia — Cognitive Maintainer

Background

Felicia is 67 years old and a retired postal worker. She noticed her memory slipping about a year ago. Her daughter set up Cognitive Stories on her phone. She is patient and methodical — she reads each story twice before tapping "I'm ready." She is not interested in paying for apps but is loyal to the ones she uses.

She uses Cognitive Stories on Android (Samsung Galaxy A14, a budget device) on the Free tier.

Goals

  • Maintain cognitive stability through consistent, comfortable practice
  • Exercise on a manageable schedule (Mon/Wed/Fri) without pressure to increase difficulty
  • Find voice retelling easier than typing — "typing is harder than talking"

How She Uses the App

Felicia has completed 15 sessions over about two months. She exercises every other day (Mon/Wed/Fri pattern). She stays on Easy difficulty by choice — 5–6 facts is comfortable for her, and her accuracy has been steady around 55–62%.

She always uses voice retelling and reads each story twice before beginning. Her habit of reading twice before tapping "I'm ready" is accommodated by the configurable reading timer — she is never rushed.

Her strongest fact type is names (70% average); her weakest is dates (35% average).

Felicia did not set up the app herself — her daughter installed it and set the initial difficulty to Medium. Felicia found her way to Settings and changed it to Easy herself, which demonstrates the importance of accessible settings navigation.

Accessibility

Visual + age-related — uses 140% system font scaling, needs large tap targets due to a mild hand tremor, has a slower reading speed. Tests text legibility, touch target sizing, and performance on constrained hardware (Galaxy A14).

Tier

Free, Android.
