Rafael — Process-Minded Musician

Tier: Free Platform: Android Music style: Singer-songwriter

Background

Rafael is a former software QA engineer who left his tech career to pursue music full-time. He approaches songwriting the way he used to approach test plans — methodically, with checklists and defined criteria for what "done" looks like at each step. Before The Structured Musician, he tracked everything in notebooks. He won't upgrade until he's completely certain the free tier can't give him what he needs.

How He Uses the App

Rafael builds all his processes from scratch. He has three custom workflows: "Singer-Songwriter Pipeline" (7 stages), "Cover Song Quick Release" (4 stages), and "Collaboration Workflow" (6 stages). He logs stage transitions every evening after dinner, reviewing his day and noting what happened in each session.

He has tracked 11 songs through his pipeline — 7 completed, 4 active. His average time from Idea Capture to Release is 18 days, with Recording consistently his longest stage at 5.2 days. He uses the timing data to see if he's getting faster but not yet the advanced analytics (that would require Plus).

Progress Level

Rafael is at "Building Habits" for songwriting and "Getting Started" for marketing. He follows his processes consistently but hasn't started reviewing data regularly enough to qualify as "Tracking" level.

What He Values

  • Complete control over stage definitions and done-criteria
  • The ability to reorder stages as he refines his thinking
  • Timing data that appears automatically without manual entry
  • Free tier features that fully support his workflow without upselling him
