How to Rate a Lighthouse
Elena, a detail-oriented collector, rates every lighthouse she visits across all four categories. She considers each dimension carefully rather than giving a quick overall score — Portland Head Light got 5.0 for Scenery and 5.0 for Photo Opportunities, but a more measured 4.0 for Accessibility due to the steep path to the keeper's house. This guide shows how to submit your rating.
Requirements
You must have logged the lighthouse as visited (marked as visited) before you can rate it.
Steps
-
Open the lighthouse detail screen for a visited lighthouse.
-
Tap "Rate This Lighthouse." The rating form opens.
-
Rate across 4 categories using the star sliders (0.5 to 5.0 in half-star increments):
- Scenery — the visual beauty of the lighthouse and its natural setting
- Accessibility — how easy it is to reach, park, and visit the lighthouse
- Historical Significance — the lighthouse's importance in maritime or local history
- Photo Opportunities — the quality of the location for photography (angles, lighting, backgrounds)
-
Review your ratings. The form shows a computed aggregate of your 4 category scores.
-
Tap Submit. Your ratings are saved.
What Happens After You Submit
- The lighthouse detail screen shows your individual category ratings and the updated community aggregate.
- The community aggregate (overall stars and rating count) updates on the lighthouse detail page and the Explore tab listing.
- You can update your rating at any time by tapping "Rate This Lighthouse" again and changing the sliders.
Expected Outcome
Your rating is saved and your computed aggregate is added to the community average. The Explore tab listing and Map preview both reflect the updated community rating.
Tips
- Community ratings help other users decide which lighthouses to prioritize before visiting. Detailed, honest ratings across all 4 categories are more useful than a quick single-star overall.
- You can only submit one rating per lighthouse. Updating your rating replaces your previous submission — it does not create a duplicate.
- Lighthouses with fewer than 3 ratings show "New" instead of a star average on the Explore tab.
