How to Read Sleep Science Articles and Check Citations
Who this is for: Anyone who wants to learn about sleep science and verify the evidence behind the content.
Ravi, a biomedical engineering graduate student, doesn't take health claims at face value. He wants to read about sleep basics and check the citations to make sure the sources are credible.
Steps
- Navigate to the Learn tab using the bottom navigation bar.
- Browse categories. The content library is organized into 9 categories: Sleep Basics, Light & Sleep, Temperature, Nutrition & Caffeine, Exercise & Sleep, Stress & Relaxation, Sleep Environment, Sleep Schedules & Consistency, and Common Sleep Myths. Tap a category to see its articles.
- Open an article. Tap any article title to open the full text. Articles are long-form, scroll vertically, and include headings and inline citations.
- Check a citation. At the bottom of each article is a References section listing the sources (NIH, Sleep Foundation, Mayo Clinic, peer-reviewed journals). Tap a citation link to open the original source in your external browser.
- Return to the app. Use your device's back gesture or button. Your reading position in the article is preserved when you return.
Expected Outcome
You've read a full sleep science article and confirmed that its claims are backed by at least one reputable source. The citation link opened in your browser and the article remained available when you returned to the app.
Tips
- The search icon on the Learn tab lets you search across all articles and tip cards by keyword.
- Tap the bookmark icon on any article to save it for later — bookmarks are accessible from the Learn tab under "Bookmarks."
- Tip cards (shorter 1–2 paragraph summaries) are also in the Learn tab and each one includes a source citation.
