How to Organize Memories into Collections
Tomoko, a 62-year-old retired postal worker, has been adding memories to the app for months — photos, stories, dates from her husband's life while he can still be present in it. At 47 memories, the main timeline is a lot to scroll. She wants to be able to go to the beach trips or the grandchildren without wading through everything at once.
Collections let you group related memories under a meaningful name. You can create as many collections as you need, move memories between them, and view each collection as its own focused timeline.
Steps
1. Navigate to the Memories tab and open Collections
Tap the Memories tab at the bottom of the screen. On the main memories screen, tap Collections — you'll find this as a tab or a button near the top of the screen, next to the main timeline view.
2. Create a new collection
Tap + New Collection. A dialog appears asking you to name the collection. Choose a name that is meaningful to you — this is your private record, so the name can be anything:
- Her garden, every spring
- Before the diagnosis
- Things she would have loved
- The kids and her
- Our last good year
Type the name and tap Create. The new collection appears in your collection list immediately, empty and waiting.
3. Select existing memories to add to the collection
With your new collection open, tap Add Memories. Your full memory library appears as a scrollable grid. Tap each memory you want to add to this collection — a checkmark appears when selected.
You can add as many or as few memories as you like. Memories can belong to more than one collection at the same time — adding a memory to a collection does not remove it from the main timeline or any other collection it's already in.
Tap Done when you've finished selecting.
4. Reorder memories within the collection
Once memories are in the collection, you can arrange them in any order that feels right. Tap the Reorder button (or press and hold a memory card) to enter reorder mode. Drag memories into the sequence you want — chronological, thematic, emotional, or anything else.
The main timeline always shows memories in date order, but within a collection, you control the sequence.
5. View the collection as a mini-timeline
Tap any collection to open it in full. The collection displays as a focused timeline — just those memories, in the order you've arranged them, with their photos, stories, and dates.
You can swipe through the memories one at a time or scroll them as a list. Tap any individual memory to open it fully, read the story, or edit the details.
What to Expect
Collections appear on the Collections screen sorted by when you created them. You can rename a collection at any time by tapping the menu icon next to its name.
Deleting a collection does not delete the memories inside it — they remain in your main timeline and any other collections they belong to. Deleting a collection only removes the grouping.
If you want to add new memories directly to a specific collection, open the collection first, then tap + Add Memory from within it. The memory will be added to the main timeline and to this collection at the same time.
Collections are available on all plan tiers, including Free.
