How to Receive an AI-Personalized Check-In (Plus)

Priya, a 41-year-old marketing director, noticed something uncomfortable in her second month of using the app: every Monday morning was harder than the rest of the week. She'd been tracking it without naming it. The AI-personalized check-in named it for her — gently, specifically, without drama — and offered something she'd actually found useful before. That was the moment the app moved from tool to companion for her.

The AI-personalized check-in is a Plus feature that replaces the standard daily check-in on days when your data is rich enough to say something meaningful. It uses patterns from your journal entries, emotional check-ins, self-care tracking, and grief assessments to offer a check-in that responds to your specific experience — not a generic prompt.

note

This feature is available on the Plus and Pro tiers. It requires at least 14 days of app use with regular check-ins to generate meaningful patterns.

Steps

1. Open the app and receive your AI-personalized check-in

On days when the AI has identified a meaningful pattern in your data, your dashboard shows a personalized check-in card instead of the standard emotional scale. The card opens with a brief, specific observation:

"We've noticed Mondays tend to be heavier for you. That pattern has shown up consistently over the past six weeks."

The observation is specific — it names a real pattern from your data, not a generic statement. It is not a diagnosis, an interpretation, or a judgment.

2. Read the contextual pattern acknowledgment

Below the observation, the check-in briefly explains what it noticed and why it's saying something now:

"Your check-ins from the past three Mondays all landed in the 'Heavy' or 'Difficult' range, often alongside lower self-care scores. This might be connected to your previous work schedule, a recurring anniversary, or something else entirely — only you know."

The AI offers possibilities without claiming to know the reason. It invites you to recognize the pattern, not explain it.

3. See a suggestion based on what has worked before

Below the pattern observation, the check-in suggests a coping tool or activity drawn from your own history:

"On days that followed a 'Heavy' Monday, journaling in the evening seemed to help — you rated the following Tuesday as 'Lighter' on days when you wrote something the night before."

The suggestion connects a specific action you've already taken to an outcome you've already experienced. It is not recommending a new behavior. It is reminding you of one you already know works.

4. Respond to the check-in and add a journal entry

Below the pattern and suggestion, the standard emotional check-in appears — the same emoji scale you'd see on a regular day. Select your current emotional state.

If the check-in prompted something worth writing, tap Write a journal entry to open a new free-form entry. The check-in observation is optionally pre-filled as the first line of the entry, which you can keep or delete.

5. Review your AI-detected patterns in the analytics section

To see all the patterns the AI has detected over your time using the app, tap Assess → My Patterns. This section shows a running list of observations the AI has made, with the date they were first noticed and whether they've continued, resolved, or shifted.

You can tap any pattern to see the underlying data — the specific check-in dates, self-care logs, or journal entries that contributed to the observation. This is your data, and you can see exactly how the AI arrived at what it said.

6. Opt out of AI analysis at any time

If you want to stop receiving AI-personalized check-ins, or if you don't want the app to analyze your patterns at all, go to Settings → AI Features → Pattern Analysis and toggle it off.

When this setting is off:

  • You receive the standard daily check-in, no personalization
  • No new pattern analysis is run on your data
  • Previously generated patterns are retained but not shown unless you re-enable the feature
  • Your underlying journal, check-in, and assessment data is not affected

You can re-enable pattern analysis at any time. Opting out does not delete your data.

What to Expect

The AI-personalized check-in does not always appear. On days when no meaningful pattern is relevant, or when you haven't used the app enough to generate reliable observations, the standard check-in appears instead. The AI does not fabricate patterns — it only surfaces observations when the data supports them clearly enough to be worth saying.

The tone of all AI-generated check-ins is warm and validating. The system is designed to offer observations that feel like something a thoughtful person said after paying attention, not something an algorithm produced. If you ever receive an observation that feels wrong, inaccurate, or hurtful, use Settings → Feedback to report it. All reports are reviewed.

note

AI-personalized check-ins are a Plus and Pro feature. They are not available on the Free tier.
