Darnell — AC-02
Persona family: The Supporter Tier: Free Platform: Web — work laptop (desktop) Experience stage: Active
Who He Is
Darnell's younger brother has panic attacks, and Darnell has decided that "call me if you need anything" is not a plan. He is calm and methodical, and he speaks in steady, short sentences — a script, not a speech. When his brother panics, Darnell reads the grounding steps aloud at his brother's pace.
He has no account and wants none. He is not the one panicking; the tools he needs are the ones that work from a signed-out browser on his work laptop.
What He Wants
- Know exactly what to do when his brother panics. Not ideas — steps. The app's flows are his script.
- Say the right things. The anchoring statements and grounding prompts give him words when his own fail.
- Keep himself steady too. Supporting someone through panic is its own stress; the app's calm tone works on him as well.
How He Uses the App
Darnell bookmarked the grounding flow after using it twice with his brother. He reads each step aloud — one sense per step, self-paced — while his brother answers without touching the device.
He read the education page end to end once and keeps the tab open on his work laptop. He has browsed the technique library before he needed it, because preparation is the supporter's superpower. He signs out every time; he has never made an account.
What He Needs from the App
- Signed-out access to everything he uses. Relief flows, the library, and education — no account prompt, ever.
- A flow designed to be read aloud. One prompt per step, no timer pressure, self-paced advance — the flow has to work as someone else's script.
- Calm, jargon-free language. He is delivering these words to someone mid-attack; the copy has to be speakable.
- Tools that don't assume he's the one panicking. Nothing in his path requires an account, a personal history, or a tier.
Design Implications
Darnell represents the second person in the room — the one the app rarely designs for explicitly and always serves accidentally. His existence is why relief is shareable: the grounding flow works as a read-aloud script, the library works signed out, and the safety plan is written to be handed across to a supporter. If a flow can't be read aloud at someone else's pace, it fails Darnell and the person he's helping.
