How to Reflect on a Notification and Write a Journal Entry

Bridget receives a Mindfulness notification during her morning routine, taps it, and writes a 3-sentence reflection about how the quote applies to her yoga practice. She rates it 4 out of 5 stars. The entry joins her journal timeline where she can revisit it alongside the reminder that inspired it.

Prerequisites

Push notifications enabled. At least 1 reminder in your collection. See Getting Started for how to enable notifications.

Steps

Receiving and Opening the Notification

  1. A push notification arrives — it shows the reminder text (truncated if long) and the category label.

  2. Tap the notification — the app opens directly to the reminder detail screen showing:

    • Full reminder text
    • Source/attribution
    • Category and schedule type
    • A "Reflect" button

Writing the Journal Entry

  1. Tap "Reflect" — a journal entry form opens. The reminder is automatically linked to this entry.

  2. Write your reflection (required) — type whatever comes to mind about how this reminder applies to your life right now. A few sentences is plenty; longer is fine too.

  3. Set a resonance rating (optional) — tap 1-5 stars to rate how much this reminder resonated with you in this moment. 5 = deeply meaningful, 1 = it arrived at the wrong time or didn't land.

  4. Tap Save — the entry is saved.

Viewing the Entry

  1. Go to the Journal tab (fourth tab in the bottom navigation) — your new entry appears at the top of the chronological timeline showing:

    • The reminder text snippet
    • Your reflection text
    • The resonance rating
    • The timestamp
  2. Tap the entry — opens the full detail view with your complete reflection and the linked reminder below it. Tap the reminder to navigate to its detail screen.

Expected Outcome

  • Journal entry saved and visible at the top of the Journal tab
  • Entry shows the linked reminder, reflection text, resonance rating, and timestamp
  • Tapping the linked reminder navigates to the reminder detail screen

Tips

  • Bridget's approach: she journals after almost every notification. Over 41 entries, she's built a record of how her thinking has evolved. Looking back at a reflection from 6 months ago and noticing how your perspective has shifted is one of the most valuable things the journal enables.
  • The resonance rating helps you track which reminders consistently land for you. Sort your reminders by "most reflections" to see your highest-engagement wisdom.
  • You can also start a journal entry from any reminder's detail screen (not just from notifications) — tap the reminder in My Reminders and look for the "Reflect" button.
