Journal a Bias Observation

Priya, a data engineer at a fintech startup, caught herself making a decision influenced by the Availability Heuristic at work. She wants to journal about it while the details are fresh.

Steps

  1. Tap the Journal tab in the bottom navigation
  2. Tap the "+" button to create a new entry
  3. Describe what happened — be specific about the situation, what you were thinking, and what decision you made
  4. Tag the bias — select which cognitive bias was at play (e.g., Availability Heuristic)
  5. Add context — choose the situation type (work, personal, social), your emotion, and the outcome (positive, negative, mixed)
  6. Save the entry — it appears in your journal feed, searchable and filterable

What to Expect

Your journal becomes a private, searchable record of real bias moments. Over time, patterns emerge — you might notice that certain biases cluster around specific situations (like work meetings or family dinners).

Tips

  • Journal as close to the moment as possible — details fade quickly
  • Be honest about outcomes, even if they're uncomfortable
  • Use the structured tags (situation, emotion, outcome) to enable pattern analysis later
  • Filter your journal by bias type to spot recurring blind spots
