How to Add a Fuzzy Date to a Memory

Who this is for: Anyone who wants to record a memory from the past but can't pinpoint an exact date.

Elena is writing about her grandmother's garden in Guadalajara. She remembers it was spring, probably 1987, but not the exact day.

Steps

  1. Open the memory editor — either create a new memory or tap "Edit" on an existing one.
  2. Enter your title and memory text as usual.
  3. Tap the date field. The whenish date picker opens.
  4. Enter the year. Type or scroll to the year you remember.
  5. Choose a temporal descriptor. Select from options such as:
    • "early in the year" (January–March)
    • "sometime in spring" (March–May)
    • "sometime in summer" (June–August)
    • "sometime in autumn" (September–November)
    • "late in the year" (October–December)
    • "around the holidays"
    • "sometime that year" (no seasonal preference)
  6. Review the preview. The picker shows a text label like "1987 (sometime in spring)" so you can confirm it reads correctly.
  7. Tap "Done" to apply the date.
  8. Save the memory.

Expected Outcome

The memory's date shows "1987 (sometime in spring)" on its detail view. On the Timeline, the memory is positioned at the approximate midpoint of that seasonal window within 1987 — between the other memories from that period.

Tips

  • You can combine a fuzzy descriptor with any year, including the current year.
  • If you later remember the exact date, edit the memory and switch to an exact date.
  • Memories with no date at all appear in an undated section at the edge of the Timeline.
