How to Add and Manage Places
Who this is for: Anyone who wants to track the geographic dimension of their memories.
Carlos wants to add Patagonia (Argentina), Bangkok (Thailand), and Lisbon (Portugal) as places so they appear on his Whereline map.
Steps
- Tap the "Places" tile on the dashboard.
- Tap the "+" button to add a new place.
- Enter a name (e.g., "Patagonia Base Camp").
- Use the hierarchy picker to set the geographic level:
- Select continent → country → state/region → city (stop at any level you know).
- Add a description (optional) — what this place means to you.
- Tap "Save." The place is added and immediately appears as a pin on the Whereline.
- Repeat for other places.
Linking Places to Memories
- When creating or editing a memory, tap "Add Place" in the entity chip bar and select the place.
- Alternatively, use the whereish location picker (see Add a Fuzzy Location) — Memoryish creates or matches a place automatically.
Expected Outcome
Each saved place appears in the Places list and as a pin on the Whereline. Tapping a pin on the map shows a preview popup with the place's name and linked memory count.
Tips
- A place can be as broad as a continent or as specific as a city block. Use the level of precision you actually remember.
- If you have multiple memories in the same city, they all link to one place entity — you don't need to create duplicates.
